Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 Jul 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data GigEmployee ("we", "us", "the Platform") collects from users of gigemployee.in, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to Clients and Freelancers alike, and is framed around India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and the IT (Reasonable Security Practices) Rules, 2011.

1. What We Collect

Name, email, phone number, city, and (for Freelancers) skills, bio, profile photo, and portfolio/work samples you provide at signup or in your profile. Verification documents (a government ID proof and a portfolio/LinkedIn/GitHub link) if you apply for a Verified badge — these are reviewed by our team and stored securely, never shared publicly. Project details, bids, milestones, messages, task updates, and files you post or upload while using the Platform. Subscription payment metadata from Razorpay (order/payment IDs, amount, status) for your monthly subscription — we do not store your card number, UPI PIN, or full bank details; those are handled directly by Razorpay under its own PCI-DSS compliant systems. We never collect, process, or store payment details for project work itself — that money moves directly between Clients and Freelancers, outside the Platform.

2. How We Use It

To operate the platform: matching bids to projects, unlocking contact details once a bid is accepted, processing your monthly subscription payment, showing your profile, rating, and verification status to other users, and reviewing verification requests. To send OTP login codes and transactional emails (a new bid received, your bid accepted, a new chat message, a milestone update, dispute updates). To detect and prevent abuse — for example, our systems automatically mask phone numbers, email addresses, and UPI IDs typed into project chat before a bid is accepted, so the contact-unlock rule can't be bypassed. To review reported disputes using the chat/milestone/timeline record on the relevant project. To comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations tied to subscription payments processed through the Platform.

3. Who We Share It With

Razorpay (for subscription payment processing only), our email/SMTP provider (to deliver OTP and notification emails), and the other party on a given project — your name, rating, verification badge, milestone records, and messages relevant to that project are visible to whoever you're working with, and your contact details (email/phone) become visible to the other party once a bid is accepted. We do not sell personal data to third parties, and we do not share your uploaded ID proof with anyone other than our internal verification reviewers.

4. Data Retention

We retain account and subscription data for as long as your account is active and as required for tax and accounting record-keeping under Indian law (typically several years). Chat messages, milestone records, and project files are retained for the life of the related project plus a reasonable period for dispute review. You may request account deletion by emailing us, subject to retaining records legally required for completed subscription transactions.

5. Your Rights

You can view and update most of your profile information from your Profile page at any time, including removing portfolio items. To request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (subject to legal retention requirements), email support@gigemployee.in. We will respond within a reasonable time, and in any case within the timelines required under the DPDP Act.

6. Data Security

Passwords are never stored — accounts are secured via one-time email codes (OTP). Uploaded files (verification documents, portfolio images, chat/task attachments) are stored with randomized, unguessable filenames and are not directly browsable as a folder listing. We use HTTPS to encrypt data in transit. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access.

7. Cookies & Sessions

We use a session cookie strictly to keep you logged in. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

8. Grievance Officer & Contact

In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and rules made thereunder, the contact point for privacy complaints and grievances is: support@gigemployee.in. We aim to acknowledge grievances within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days, consistent with applicable Indian IT rules.
